Shortening your URLs is important because a shorter URL means your code will have less black dots. This usually reduces the number of errors people encounter when scanning and makes it easier for people to scan quickly. Once you've determined what you want to encode, you can a free dashboard to create your code, or you can get someone to develop a customized code that incorporates your logo into the design. Codes can be customized in other ways too. They can be resized, but don't make it too small or users may have difficulty. You can also alter the color of your code, but make sure there's enough contrast between the code and the background. It's a good idea to inform people of what they'll get if they scan your code. If you're directing them to your website or your page on Facebook, let them know that with some simple text above or below the code. People are more likely to scan your code if they know where it's going to take them. Consider offering a discount or other promotion to encourage people to scan. Before printing your code on anything, be sure to test it on as many different apps as you can to make sure it works. This is especially important if you're using a customized quick response code with graphics, a logo or different colors in it, although even plain black and white codes produce errors on occasion. Why? Because lately, TinyURL has gotten too popular, thanks to Twitter using the service to condense long links into more manageable lengths that can fit into their 140 character limits, among other users. As with many things on the Interwebs, the price of popularity is outages, what some would call being Slashdotted, after the Web site that can direct thousands of readers towards an article in a click of a mouse. And apparently TinyURL has suffered from a regular series of outages, whether due to popularity or poor IT planning, I can't say. TinyURL isn't the only URL shortener, but perhaps the oldest and most well known. In an informal survey of people on my LinkedIn group, it was by far the one of choice.

Step 2: Click on the arrow next to your business name in the top left corner of your dashboard. You should see your public Yelp listing. Step 3: Click the red “Write a Review” button. Step 4: Copy the URL to share. So what does Yelp want you to know? Yelp discourages businesses from asking customers for reviews. Why would they do that when their whole platform is built on reviews? Because businesses tend to only ask their happiest customers for online reviews, and Yelp wants to provide the most helpful reviews to its audience. These will likely include a mix of positive and negative reviews, a more representative sample of people’s experiences with your business. Yelp also has a fairly sophisticated software for filtering out unhelpful reviews - including 5-star reviews without context and 1-star reviews that are little more than rants. Because Yelp will remove reviews they think you might be “stuffing” into your profile, our recommendation is to make it easy for customers to leave you reviews on Yelp, without asking specific customers based on some criteria.
